Whether you need complete financial planning, Social Security optimization, or specialized guidance during a major life transition, our services are designed to give you clarity, confidence, and peace of mind about your financial future.

Financial Planning for Widows & Widowers

You don't have to navigate this new chapter alone.

I specialize in helping newly single adults who are contemplating circumstances they never planned for. Together, we'll create a custom financial roadmap designed to give you confidence and avoid becoming a burden before, during, and especially at the end of retirement.

    • Are a recent (or soon to be) widow, widower, or divorcee

    • Have total assets of $2 million or more

    • Want to maximize what goes to your family, not the IRS or nursing home

    • Value working with an independent fiduciary who puts your interests first

    What makes this different:

    • Fixed, flat fee structure (no percentage-based fees that grow with your wealth)

    • Independent advisor – I don't work for insurance companies or investment firms

    • Written fiduciary pledge to always put your interests first

    • Remote service available nationwide

Investment minimum: $2 million in total assets

    Annual fee: Starting at $10,200

A fixed, flat fee that covers financial planning AND investment management, which is very different from most others in the financial business.

    • Our minimum annual fee is $10,200, but I’ll only work with you if I can be sure the value outweighs the cost.

Standby
Financial Advisor

Preparing your spouse for financial independence.

What happens if the spouse who handles all the money can no longer do so? This limited-scope service ensures that both spouses understand the family finances and that the non-controlling spouse gains the confidence to take charge when needed. This service helps couples prepare for the unthinkable while there's still time to learn and ask questions together.

    • Are a married couple aged 60 to 75

    • Have one spouse who controls most or all financial matters

    • Want to ensure both spouses understand the family finances

    • Need the non-controlling spouse to gain confidence with money management

    • Want preparation without full financial planning complexity

    What makes this different:

    • Limited scope focus on knowledge transfer and preparation

    • Both spouses participate in the education process

    • Practical, hands-on approach to financial organization

    • Builds confidence through understanding, not overwhelming detail

    • Ongoing annual check-ins to reinforce learning

Service includes: Two 90-minute virtual meetings per year covering financial inventory, education, and confidence-building guidelines

    Fee: $450 per meeting

In the two 90-minute meetings per year (preferably virtual), we:

    • Locate & inventory all financial components of your situation.

    • Ensure the non-controlling spouse understands what and where everything is.

    • Establish broad guidelines as to how the non-controlling spouse will gain the confidence to take charge with guidance from JSFA professionals.

This isn't comprehensive financial planning – it's practical preparation to ensure your spouse can confidently manage your family's finances if needed.

Who I can help

I'm not the right advisor for everyone. After doing this work for over 30 years, here's the type of person for whom I can add the most value and assistance.

You're a widow/widower 55-75 years young

  • I have devoted my career to helping newly single folks retire comfortably and on their own terms. I have a deep understanding of the challenges faced by successful, nice people before and after retirement and years of experience collaborating with them.

accumulated at least $2 million in assets

  • Due to the high-touch, personalized nature of my services and my fee minimums, I am best equipped to help if you have accumulated at least $2 million in assets (excluding primary residence).

You value collaboration

  • I do my best work with clients who like the idea of having an experienced partner–advisor to discuss ideas and collaborate with on your planning decisions.

You want to strike a balance

  • We’re a good fit to work together if you want to balance living well today with feeling comfortable and confident about your future.

You value teamwork

  • If you’re married, you want your spouse to be involved in the financial planning process.

If we mutually agree that it makes sense to work together, here's what I'll deliver:

Organization & Simplification, Proactive Service, Objective Advice, Encouragement, Informed Decisions, and a Thinking Partner.

Objective Advice

  • Money is emotional and it touches virtually every facet of our lives. And this is exactly why it can be helpful to have an objective, 3rd party analyze your situation and assist with making more rational decisions when it comes to your money. And your life.

Organization & Simplification

  • Money isn't always easy, but it should always be simple, if you ask me. That's why we'll spend time helping you get organized and simplify your financial matters as much as possible.

Proactive Service

  • I work with a small, select group of clients. This allows me to be proactive in serving your needs. In addition to being available when you need something, I also regularly reach out to check in with you.

Encouragement

  • Sometimes you might need a gentle nudge in the right direction. Other times, you might need some tough love. But in addition to accountability and encouragement, we also want to celebrate your "wins" along the way.

Informed Decisions

  • Not only will I help you make smarter financial decisions, I'll also do my best to educate you on the choices you have and why I'm making a specific recommendation.

Thinking Partner

  • I can't give you personalized advice until I've had a chance to really get to know you. And as we build this foundation of understanding and trust over time, I hope you'll consider me an interested and available "thinking partner" to help you work through anything you might be considering.
